Robert Gene “Bob” Honeycutt, son of Luther Dell and Eddie Mae Honeycutt was born on July 29, 1931 and passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 89 at his home in The Woodlands surrounded by his family on October 24, 2020.
He was raised in Gladewater, Texas where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. His 4x100 relay team set a national record, and as a running back for the Bears he scored the only touchdown against the undefeated and unscored upon Longview Lobos in the last game of that season. After graduating from Gladewater High School, where he was Vice President of the junior class and President of the student body his senior year, he attended the University of Texas at Austin (UT) on a football scholarship. He graduated from UT with a BBA in 1953, the first football player to attain a B average with such a degree. From UT he moved to New York and received an MBA at NYU in 1954.
After college, Bob served a stint in the army at Ft. Leonard Wood and then went to work for Humble Oil (Exxon), working at Exxon his entire career. He began in Waco where he married Joe Ann Guynes and started his family with the birth of Jan Marie, moved to Tucson, then Albuquerque where Robert Conrad was born, and continued to Corpus Christi, Dallas, and finally Houston where he retired from his position as Manager of Marketing/Real Estate Investments. During his later years at Exxon, he developed the “like-kind exchange” program which provided him an opportunity to stand out within the real estate division and save Exxon a significant amount of taxable income.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joe Ann in 2003; and his sister Marie Dell Honeycutt Molina. He is survived by his wife Irma Todd Honeycutt whom he met in 2007, dated, and then married in 2016. He is also survived by his daughter Jan and son-in-law Richard Parizek of Phoenix, his son Bobby Honeycutt and his wife Jennifer of Tucson, and his family through marriage, Lisa Todd and her husband Dave Uhlich as well as Dianne Todd and her husband Neal Hallmark. He had two nephews who live in Dallas: Stephen and Richard Molina. He had five grandchildren: Blake, Erin, and Chloe Honeycutt; Marion Werner, and Zachary Parizek. He was also blessed with three great grandchildren: Aurora, Samuel, and Peter Werner.
