He was born in Ocala, Florida, on March 17, 1934. Jerry graduated from Ocala High School and then later received his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Education from Texas State University.
He married Carolyn (Cox) Brown on May 1, 1953, enjoying 65 years of marriage.
Jerry retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant, serving several overseas tours, including combat service in Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, Jerry served the U.S. Navy as a civilian geophysical engineer.
Jerry had a passion for singing and teaching God’s word. As a member of the Gideons he loved handing out Bibles to all who would receive them. Jerry’s hobbies included flying small prop planes, boating, tennis and golf.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah Freeman Brown and Lottie Triplett.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brown; his son, Jerry P. Brown Jr.; his daughter, Ginger (Brown) Chappelle and her husband, Hal.
Jerry has four grandchildren, Bryan Chappelle (Amy), Sherry McClure (David), Carolyn Anthony (Steven) and Jerry Brown III (Carrie); and eleven great-grandchildren, including Caleb Chappelle, Sarah Chappelle, Samuel McClure, Jacob McClure, Kyle Hall, Steven Anthony Jr., Frederick Anthony, Brandon King, Caleb King, Ethan Brown and Katelyn Brown.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. After the service, guests are invited to visit with the family during a reception in Forest Park’s event room. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 21st at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi, Mississippi, at 10:30 a.m.
