Jean Whisonant Reynolds of The Woodlands, Texas born November 24, 1936 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home at Brookdale Assisted Living Center on March 6, 2016.
Jean attended Rock Hill High School, married her high school sweetheart John Douglas Reynolds, Sr,
in 1954 and they were married 57 years before his death. Jean retired with Exxon after
30 years of service in both Charlotte, NC and Houston, Texas.
One of Jean's greatest joys was entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. Jean welcomed all to her home and everyone coveted a seat at Jean's table. Jean was an excellent cook, she was Paula Dean before there was a Paula Dean. She loved to read, shop, spend time with her family, and kept up with friends from as far back as elementary school. She had a generous heart. She prided herself on her appearance, regardless of her health; she was a quintessential southern lady. She had an angelic voice that she shared in various church choirs throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doug, her son Timmy Reynolds, her parents Lyle and Virginia Whisonant, her sister Cassie Vinson, and her brother David Whisonant. She is survived by her son Barry E. Reynolds (Bob Ham) of The Woodlands, Texas, daughter Terri Reynolds Looney (Don) of Baytown, Texas, son Doug Reynolds (Ann) of Rock Hill, SC, and daughter Chris Reynolds of Spring, Texas. She will be missed by her seven grandchildren, Angie Devinney, Tim Devinney, SSgt Michael Reynolds, Jennifer Carlisle, Rachael Devinney, Andrew Reynolds, Patrick Reynolds, and 7 great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by brothers and sisters Darryl Whisonant, Rena Neely, Steve Whisonant, Pam Baker, and Barbara Johnson of Rock Hill, SC.
