Wendell Family,

Just this morning I Googled Jay's name because I was going to call him about some career advice.  I was shocked to pull up his obituary.  I know I have lost touch with the family as my career took me to Western Nebraska for about 3 1/2 years.  I always had the highest regard for Mr. Wendell.  He always had gentle advice and we shared quite a few laughs.  I will always remember how he helped me find a job working for one of his framing crews after I graduated from high school.  I regret not staying in touch.  I know he is missed in the community, but more importantly, I know he is missed more as a husband, father, and grandfather.  May he rest in peace.  I hope you all have found comfort in knowing that he is now in the Lord's loving embrace.

Yesterday (April 17, 2012) I learned of Jay's passing.  I was so shocked when I heard.  I met Jay when he brought house plans to me at The Woodlands Corp. for permitting.  As so many others have said, Jay was a class act, and always brought his "A" game in whatever he did.  I never heard a bad word said about Jay, only the best.  It was my pleasure to deal with Jay on the job or in the neighborhood of The Woodlands.  If you could give gold stars for a fine human being, and Christian, Jay would have had a wall full of them.  I'll see you in Heaven one day my friend.  Kindest regards to the family during this time.

We were so sorry to hear of Jay's death.  He was a fine man and we enjoyed working with him.  He sure built a beautiful house.  Our prayers are with all of you.

Terry and I are very sad to hear Jay passed away. He was such a wonderful person. There have been so many nice notes left here talking about Jay through the years. He was a great christian,loving husband,father and grandfather,teacher and friend. Oh a proud AGGIE too. The list seemed to be endless of compliments by so many people he touched in his lifetime.One of the best note said it all..".a man of honesty, integrity, love of family. and a love for the Lord. I had the pleasure of being in the same class as Jay in 08.  He was an inspiration and showed more enthusiasm in the class than his younger counterparts.  

He always had a story to show and was a personification of graciousness and kindness.  My heartfelt condolences to Jean and family. He will be missed.

You probably don't remember me.  I just read in The Villager about Jay tonight, Thursday, April 5, 2012.  Actually, I was shocked to read about Jay's passing into eternal life.

I would just like to express my condolences regarding your loss.  I'm sure God just needed this fine man more than we do.

Jay coached my son, Chris, several years ago in the ORWALL Little League.  I observed him coaching all the youngsters.  He did an excellent job in working with all of the players.

He was a soft spoken person who we all admired greatly.

Dear Mrs. Wendell,  I want you to know how sorry I am to hear about Jay.  I am a member of the Texas A&M Class of '70 and spent four years in Huslin One!  Jay and I were together in the Corps before he had to return to Houston.  For approximately 40 years, I lost contact with him. Jay was one of my clients for nearly 2 1/2 years and he was incredible to work with!  Always smiling when he came in and always encouraging and inspiring me to be my best!  He had a resolution like no other and, although I haven't seen him in many years, just knowing he was still here and hadn't changed a bit made everything right with the world!  Jay was taken entirely too early and makes me question everything about the way it's "suppose" to be.  The world just won't be right without him.......Rest In Peace Jay, you are already missed!

All of the Construction Science Program at TAMU, faculty, staff, and students alike will sorely miss Jay. He brought us many, many smiles and shared his wealth of wisdom with all of us.

Please accept my condolences in your (and our) great loss.  I am stunned as I am sure you all are, and wish I could be with you through this most difficult time.  Lean hard on Christ's finished work at the cross and take comfort in knowing Jay is in a place where God needed him now. Jay and I spent many hours building model cars in our old neighborhood growing up during grade school and then shared getting our first cars together in high school . He was always very meticulous in building those model cars and that care showed in his adult lfe as a premier Woodlands home builder.
Jean, I will always remember Jay as a  gentleman and true friend.

To Jean, Jay and Josh --

When I first met Jay at U of H in the fall of 1968 (or 1969), we immediately hit it off and were study partners for much of our Accounting classes.  We even found the same situations rather humorous, which I found particularly perplexing because Jay seemed to be a rather serious person at that time.  I came to find out soon enough that his seriousness was due to not only his basic nature, but also his brother being held as prisoner in Viet Nam.

For the next several years we went through accounting together, Jay usually receiving slightly higher grades than me, but he never acted as though it were a competition--eventhough I suspected otherwise.

When we graduated in May, 1970, he had a job waiting at the US Treasury working in the Special Service with the IRS, and I went the public accounting practice route.  We never saw each other until about 20 years later when my wife and I were touring a Parade of Homes in The Woodlands and ran into Jay and you, Jean, at one of your homes.  I always felt that you and Jay built the finest detailed homes in The Woodlands.  My wife and I even tried to negotiate with Jay to build one for us, but never left our home on the Tournament Course that brought us to The Woodlands in the first place.

I regret that Jay and I never really rekindled our strong friendship, but that was as much my fault as our children never really meshed, age-wise.  Our only child, Zachary, did graduate from A&M, which I'm sure Jay would have been most enthusiatic about.

I was so happy that Jay finally got his Aggie ring after so many years.  He deserved and definitely earned it.

My best to you all and always know that Jay left some very deep footprints on this earth.  He will be missed.  God bless you.

Some of my favorite memories of my Daddie involve my Uncle Jay and a table with the two of them reminiscing about Granny (Adeline) or Grandmother Morell, and about growing up in a decidedly Swedish family.  The Food,  and the crazy stories from days long past,  always made  them laugh and it was always funny to hear about what they got “into and out of”!   
 There is no doubt that Uncle Jay was a great man and he has left a legacy of love behind in his wonderful family – I know there has been a huge hole that has been left with his passing,& I send a special prayer to my Aunt Jean and cousins - JJ and Josh, and their families -   I love you Woodland Wendells so very much!

Jay was my number one cousin. We spent many happy days in Elgin at Grandmother Morell's. Later Jay and Jean were my constant support during desert storm and their packages were eagerly anticipated. I cannot express in words how much I will miss my friend and advisor. "Marching in behind the Band!"

So sorry,I'm going to miss seeing Jay at A&M this fall. My prayers go out to Jean,Jay and Josh, and their families.Jay was agood man.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jay's death. I have such great memories of our trips to College Station to watch his beloved Aggies. I was always amazed that he not only knew the names of every starting player but everyone on the bench as well.
