Bob was born in Beaumont, TX. in August 1938. He moved with his family to Pasadena, TX. in the late 40’s, graduating from Pasadena HS in 1956. He attended Texas A&M University (Company D2) graduating in 1960, initiating a family tradition that is now three generations deep. His sons Steve ('89) and Jim ('92), followed by his grandchildren Travis ('19), and Kalli ('21) all graduated from Texas A&M.
Bob lived his life well as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all those that were privileged to know him. He was a man that loved God, family, country, and his Aggies! Bob was a proud veteran, having served his country with honor in Germany from 1960 to 1962 in the Army Artillery. On his first nights back from Germany, he attended a church dance at St. Pius Catholic Church where, that very night, he met the love of his life, Shirley Holmes. She was a gem!
Bob spent his working years as an Engineer at Armco Steel (1963 - 1980), Haan and Clay (1981 - 1982), and AES Deepwater (1983 - 2000). He treasured his time at AES most of all, having formed lifelong friendships under a family- centric and fun culture. It was at AES that he developed a love for golf, which was later passed on to his son Steve.
Starting in the early 90’s, Bob and Shirley traveled the word with friends and each other. Their favorite destination was Israel (twice). They also loved to take cruises with their friends and family, embarking on at least 10 different voyages over the years. These activities continued after his retirement in 2000. Bob and Shirley lived the “good life” while their health was good. He always said there is a window to enjoy life in your later years. He took full advantage of that window, for sure.
While grateful for his school, his country, and his time at AES, he loved and served his family first and foremost. Bob was a loving and supportive husband to Shirley until her passing in 2011. He was an attentive and supportive father to Steve and Jim, as well as his grandchildren, always present for advice or to lend a hand.
Bob is survived by his son, Stephen Robert Johnson (Steve), his daughter-in-law Jenny and their two children Travis and Kalli. Bob's is also survived by his youngest son, James Allen Johnson (Jim) and his two children, Abigail Elizabeth (Abbey) and Sarah Ashley Johnson, as well as his brother Michael "Mickey" Johnson.
He is preceded into the light by his wife, Shirley; his parents, James Tenny and Doris Johson; and his sister, Patricia Tomek.
Thank you, Yahweh, for bringing Bob into the healing light of your presence. He is home again.
