Mary Anne Rex, 92, of The Woodlands, TX passed away on April 26, 2023. Mary Anne was born on January 24, 1931. She grew up in Olean, NY as the adopted daughter of Tom and Marion Seth Dillon. She married Dean Rex on December 2, 1955, and they remained inseparable until his death just a month and a half ago. With incredible sacrifice and dedication, they raised four children.
Mary Anne epitomized the term “homemaker,” but in addition to her child rearing, canning, freezing, sewing, and cleaning, Mary Anne worked as a book keeper and clerk with several different small businesses. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for holiday meals. She loved growing indoor plants and outdoor flowers and watching birds, especially cardinals and hummingbirds. She relished hosting friends, playing dominos and cards, crafting, traveling, and putting together puzzles. Above all else, Mary Anne demonstrated vital, personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Mary Anne and Dean actively worshipped and served in churches where they lived: Immanuel EUB/UM Church in North East, PA, Pleasant Grove UM Church in Philpot, KY, and Indian Lake UM Church in Indian Lake Estates, FL. Mary Anne worked with women’s ministry, taught Sunday School, and served as church treasurer.
Mary Anne and Dean made life-long friends everywhere they went. They were good neighbors, always ready to help. Mary Anne led the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club in Indian Lake Estates for many years. It is amazing to think of the hundreds of cards she mailed to encourage and bless others.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Ken Reiss. She is survived by her four children: Dennis Rex (Terri) of Orange County, CA, Jerry Rex (Sheri) of Cincinnati, OH, Audrey Rex Travis (Ron) of The Woodlands, TX, and Leonard Rex (Donna) of Garner, NC. Mary Anne is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Prostak, Matt Travis, JT Travis, Spencer Rex, Jessica Embertson, Rebecca Travis, Lindsay Horak, Josiah Rex, Brandon Rex, Daniel Rex, and Brian Rex, 7 great grandchildren (with 1 on the way), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join the family as they celebrate the lives of both Mary Anne and Dean Rex at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023 in the Grand Hall at Forest Park Funeral Home located at 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384.
