Cindy’s last days as described by Daniel: "Starting a few days before Christmas, Cindy had been battling major congestion and sinus issues. She got better on Monday, ate a good supper, and slept good Monday night. Then Tuesday morning she had a hard relapse. It was so bad we were headed to the ER, then all of a sudden she stopped breathing on the way in the truck and they could not revive her. She passed on.

Needless to say, I am blindsided by what happened, and am devastated and extremely sad.

We were fortunate to be in love together for 40 amazing, wonderful years.

I am at peace in knowing that Cindy is in the loving hands of the Universe and will be fine as she makes her transition.

Puppies and I are slowly adjusting and know that only time will allow us to continue as we miss her presence in our daily lives."

Cindy was born in Horton, Kansas, to Harlan and Dorothy Hazen. She grew up in Bendena, Kansas. She has a younger sister, Diane, who still lives there. Cindy was survived by her two daughters, Erin and Jayne, and 3 grandchildren, Caysey, Andrea and Levi.

Cindy graduated from Midway High School in 1969. She attended and graduated with an “Associate in Arts” degree from Highland Community Junior College in 1972.

Cindy moved to Houston, Texas, to start a new life in January, 1981. It was at that time that she became a legal secretary for Shell Oil working in the land management legal division.

Daniel met Cindy in 1981 when she attended a stress management workshop he was conducting at a Houston YWCA. After she had moved to Houston, Cindy started networking to meet people by attending workshops and other events such as Jazzercise.

Cindy and Daniel became friends over the next year growing very close and in the summer of 1982 starting seriously dating. They were married in Galveston, Texas, July 12th, 1983.

In April, 1984, Daniel got a job as the Regional Training Manager for Pacific Stereo, a national retail audio/video chain with 99 stores. Cindy was able to continue her career as a legal secretary working for Rosewood Resources and Strasburger & Price in Dallas.

On Thanksgiving, 1988, Cindy and Daniel relocated back to the Houston area, moving to Shenandoah, Texas. Daniel had become a service and parts consultant for major automotive manufacturers, Chrysler, Nissan, Ford, Mazda and Toyota. They really liked the Houston Area, where Daniel grew up, which motivated them to want to move back.

Cindy’s passion were horses. She loved horses from the earliest days of her life. She had become an expert horse trainer over the years helping people with their horses as well as helping them find the right horse for their riding style.

In the spring of 1993, Cindy was lamenting with Daniel that she missed horses so he encouraged her to find a way to get back into enjoying her passion. Until her passing, she was very active in doing trail rides and other horse events. She rode in the Rodeo Houston Parade from 1996 until 2006 with Valley Lodge Trail Ride Association. Her final years were spent doing weekend trail rides with various groups including Stampede Trail Ride and Montgomery County Trail Ride Association. Her main horse from 1996, was Rio Rojo, he is now 30 years old and lives at Dobbin Hill Farm Stables in Tomball, Texas. Cindy, Rio and Daniel retired from trail riding in October, 2019, when Rio was not able to complete a day ride and the cold weather was just too much for Cindy and Daniel anymore.

In November, 1994, Cindy decided she wanted a fun, part-time job and since she loved interacting with people she got a job as a grocery checker at the first Kroger Signature store, located in The Woodlands. It was a test store for a type of store that Kroger would expand nationwide. The other perk of that job was that she was able to provide her and Daniel with medical and dental insurance. She developed into a customer favorite with people not minding standing in her line to visit with her about family and life stuff. She worked at that store until 2013 when she fully retired. She got many accolades from her customers for her excellent customer service.

Cindy and Daniel shared a passion for German Shepherds. Cindy thought it would be fun for each of them to have one as a Bucket List item. April, 2013, she found Ezri, who bonded to her from the start and was always by her wherever she was in the house. In December, 2013, she found Kira for Daniel, they bonded together immediately, too. Ezri and Kira were wonderful house dogs and close companions for each other. After Cindy passed away, Ezri missed her so much that she crossed the Rainbow Bridge to join her on August 23rd, 2023. Kira is still with Daniel, their favorite thing to do together is take morning and afternoon walks in Shenandoah and various parks in the area.

Cindy and Daniel enjoyed an amazing, loving life together experiencing many adventures. They resided in Shenandoah, Texas, where Daniel still lives
