Billie Brooks, the first of 4 siblings of the union of Clarence E. Ford and Helen Oehler Ford, was born in Castell, Texas on April 21st, 1940 and passed away on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 surrounded by her family in The Woodlands, Texas after a long and courageous battle with C.O.P.D.
After growing up in and around Kerrville, Texas where she graduated from Tivy High School in 1958, she came to Houston where she worked as a secretary and took classes at the University of Houston. In early 1963, she met the love of her life, Henry Brooks, who she married later that year in a marriage that lasted over 48 years until her demise. Billie and Henry had one child, Hogan and two grand children, Baylie and Kaitlyn, all of whom survive her.
Following their marriage, Billie worked for several years in Houston while Henry established a law practice. When Hogan came along, she quit work to make a home for the three of them.
In 1972, the Brooks’ purchased a small beer distributorship in Conroe, Texas which became Brooks Distributing Co. She was inducted to work in the business and was instrumental in helping it grow and multiply into three successful distributorships in counties on the outskirts of Houston, all of which were sold in 1998. During this time in the beer business, she was involved in several civic and charitable endeavors. One of these she enjoyed the most was chairing the Red Cross Blood Drives in Conroe where the Red Cross was deeply involved in providing blood for the communities it served.
Billie was fiercely loyal to her family and many friends. She truly enjoyed life, playing golf, bridge, traveling and entertaining. She was a terrific cook, outstanding hostess and great homemaker. One of her greatest traits was being able to talk to strangers and immediately make them feel like friends. Some kidded her about being able to talk to a wall and make the wall feel welcome. She will be sorely missed by her husband, Henry, and her son, Hogan who loved her dearly.
Besides her son and granddaughters, she is survived by her mother, Helen Kelly, her brother, C.E. Ford and sister. Betty Cardwell, all living in and around Kerrville and her sister Sherry Daily of Houston as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, March the 7th at 3:00 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home located at 18000 I-4 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384 immediately followed by a reception at the facility.
The family would like to recognize and give special thanks to Donna Wichman who served as a loving and competent care giver and assisted her in the last days of her illness leading up to her death.
