Susan Martin Potter went to her eternal home, peacefully, at her residence on April 25, 2024, while in her sleep. Susan was born on September 15, 1946, in Ringgold, LA, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at a very young age. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Virginia Martin, who instilled great values and Christian principles, that would help guide Susan throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Allen Potter.
Growing up in the small town of Ringgold, LA, Susan formed many lifelong friendships and bonds that would set the tone and foundation for the remainder of her life. She deeply loved and cherished her brothers David Martin and Johnny Martin, as well as her two sisters Bonnie Martin Nelson and Mary Martin Fowler, who were routinely with Susan, during her final months of life.
Susan graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in English, and later on, with a master’s degree in industrial psychology. Prior to moving to Texarkana, TX, Susan lived in Ruston, LA, where she was an active member of Temple Baptist Church. Susan’s Christian faith was always a guiding light throughout her life, and her top priority!
While there are many words that can describe Susan, there is one word that best describes Susan in all areas of her life—driven! She would drive to the end of the Earth to help others, with her never-ending spirit, and tremendous willpower. Susan’s passion for helping others, turned into one of her greatest joys, when she purchased a building in Texarkana to help support and grow the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Ministry.
Susan had high standards, and her commitment to producing outstanding results for herself and for others, was clearly evident to all that knew her! Susan spent the majority of her life in the apparel industry, selling fashionable clothing to fellow women, and her fashion shows and sales were always the talk of the town. Several times per year, Susan would turn her home into a New York City style fashion showroom, to showcase the latest clothing outfits and accessories from top designers. For Susan, details always mattered, they were her signature, and she was highly detailed in every area of her life!
Susan had a unique sense of style and design, she was always impeccably dressed, and she always wanted the same for other women as well.
Random acts of kindness and generosity were also commonplace in Susan’s life, where she would randomly buy a stranger’s groceries in the supermarket who could not afford to feed their family. Most recently, Susan made a substantial donation that would help fund an apartment complex for housing at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home. For Susan, It was always important to make a difference in the lives of others, and she offered an unparalleled level of care and support to everyone in her life.
Susan’s entire family, would like to acknowledge the Golden Circle Sunday school class at First Baptist Church Texarkana, for their amazing leadership, kindness, support, prayers, and love that they continuously provided to Susan. She greatly loved all of you, and for Susan, you were like her extended family!
Susan’s sons, Scot and Jason, would like to thank all of their relatives in the Roy O. Martin family, for their love, kindness, and tremendous support during these difficult times. Additionally, Scot and Jason would like to extend a special thank you and acknowledgement to Amanda McBride and her staff with Right At Home Senior Care in Texarkana, TX, along with Hospice Texarkana, Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, AR, UAMS in Little Rock, AR, CARTI in Little Rock, AR, Dr. Blake Phillips, Dr. Howard Morgan, and especially Dr.Issam Makhoul, for their collective efforts and tremendous care that you gave their mother Susan!
