He worked for the Crossett Company, which later became Georgia Pacific as a forester for 40 years. He served in the Army during World War, II. He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a degree in forestry. He was very active in St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Monticello, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Lupton Sharer, his parents, Claude and Mary Sharer, brother, Jack B. Sharer, and sister, Joanne Weaver. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Sharer Hillis of Texarkana, AR; son, John David Sharer (Cheryl) of Howell, Michigan; grandchildren, Christopher Hillis, Lindsey Hillis, Greg Sharer, Justin Sharer, Garrett Kubiak and Jeffery Kubiak; 6 great grandchildren; and special friends, Iva Jones, John and Erika Sesler, Adam and Aaron Sesler, and Audrey Westergreer.
He was loved for his great sense of humor and his chuckle of a laugh. He was an avid Razorback fan.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. James Episcopal Church, Texarkana, Texas.
