Mr. Powell was born May 24, 1931 in Texarkana, Texas. He retired as Assistant Chief from the Texarkana, Texas Police Department after a 34 year career. He then retired from the Bowie County Constable's Office after 4 terms. He was a 50 years Law Enforcement Professional, a longtime welder, a musician, and a deacon and trustee at Highland Park Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart Virginia E. Powell last year after 61 years of marriage. he leaves behind 3 sons and daughters-in-law; Mike and Kathy Powell, Dan and Tammy Powell, and Russell "Clif" and Alice Powell all of Texarkana. Also, Grandchildren; Susan Powell, Kristie and husband Alex Tyson, Stephen and wife Lyn Powell, Mark Powell. Jonathan and wife Amanda Powell, Brandy Powell, Matthew Powell, and Holly Powell. In addition, Great-Grandchildren; James Tyson III, Leah Tyson, Journey Powell, Madison Carlisle, and Raeden Burton, Many nieces and nephews are remaining as well.
Mr. Powell will be memorialized with Police Honors at 1 p.m. Tuesday December 27th at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2401 Hazel St. in Texarkana. Rev. Kevin Myers, Rev. Mike Powell, and Bowie County Sheriff James Prince will be officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of East Funeral Home in the neighborhood where he grew up.
The family will receive visits from friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2401 Hazel St., Monday December 26, 2011.
