Mr. James L Helm

J.L. Helm James Littlejohn Helm was born to Winfield and Della Helm on July 8, 1917, in Warsaw, Kaufman County, Texas. On July 24, 1937 he married Dona Slayton and they lived most of their lives with their two children on the family farm between Forney and Talty. They were married for almost 60 years until Dona passed away in 1997. He later married Jean Peacock and they enjoyed a loving companionship for six years until their health required separation to long term care facilities. J.L. was a long and fiercely devoted family man who served his community throughout his life. Above all, he loved his Lord, trusted in the promises of God, and practiced an active prayer life. He is preceded in death by his wife Dona and son Gerald, wife Jean, and nine brothers and sisters. Surviving him is his daughter, Sandra Kirk; five grandchildren, Lisa Ballew and husband Gregg, Rod Helm and wife Melissa, John Kirk, Christopher Kirk and wife Mirjam (Miriam), and Craig Kirk. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Natalie and Davis Ballew, Audrey and Caroline Helm, and Kirsten, Jake and Declan Kirk. Visitation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Forney with Rev. Jerry Griffin and Dr. Jimmy Pritchard officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Bros.
