Jerry Philip Armstrong, 85, of Terre Haute, IN passed away at 3:21 P.M. Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Union Hospital surrounded by his family and friends, after a brief illness. He was born on December 1, 1929 to Philip Armstrong and Florence May Dunn Armstrong in Terre Haute, Indiana. Jerry was line and service superintendent of Public Service/Duke Energy, retiring after forty-two years. He enjoyed every day and the people with whom he worked. Jerry was a fifty-year member and chaplain of Social Lodge 86, F&AM; Terre Haute Chapter #11 RAM; Terre Haute Council #8 Cryptic Masons; Terre Haute Commandry #16; Valley of Terre Haute, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and was the Recipient of the coveted Meritorious Service Award. He was also Medical Officer and Commander of the Indiana National Guard for a number of years. A member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for over fifty years, he enjoyed being a volunteer with the Salvation Army program. Jerry was an active member and past president of Kiwanis of Greater Terre Haute. Other memberships included Duke Energy Retirees, Educational Heritage Association, American Association of Retired Persons and the local chapter of AARP as well. Jerry graduated from Wiley High School and attended Indiana State and Purdue Universities. His interests included traveling, reading, playing the organ which he started rather recently, woodworking, cards, and being with family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Florence Armstrong. He is survived by his loving sister, Pat Armstrong; his aunt, Gloria Watson; and many cousins. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Union Hospital for their care and concern, as well as those at Westminster rehab. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday May 14, 2015 in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 215 N. 7th Street with the Reverend Drew Downs officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with Masonic services at 6:45P.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, and one hour prior to services Thursday in the Church.
