George Warren Cottom
7 mai 1932 – 2 janvier 2015
AUX SOINS DE
Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park
George Warren Cottom quietly slipped from the bonds of this earth to a place he had seen with his spiritual eyes for years, Heaven. Long had he wanted to be reunited with his wife, Beverly, who made this transition in 2005. He was born to Samuel Wesley and Anna Mary (Ferguson) Cottom on May 7, 1932. A graduate of Fontanet High School in 1950, he married Beverly Jeanne Haase on December 1, 1951. He entered the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne. Initially assigned to the Korean conflict, divine intervention kept him in the United States as a Radio Repairman. Upon leaving the Army, he started an apprenticeship with Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 20, which became his trade. He retired in 1990 and opened BG Saw Sharpening as a Christian ministry. George was a founding member of Rio Grande Full Gospel Church where he served as a teacher and deacon for many years.
Together they successfully raised seven children, who survive them; Van (Patty) of Terre Haute, Venda Blansett (Lee) of Bedford, Mark (Marcia) of Rosedale, Jerry (Patty), Martha Ward (Bud), Jim (Terry), all of Terre Haute, and Nancy Fausett (Steve) of Bedford; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren with another due in August.
George is also survived by a brother, Roy Cottom (Rosemary); sisters, Mary Taylor (Don) and Geneva Custis; and special friends, Sherman and Pauline Lemmons; brothers-in-law Bob Walters and Alex Moody. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and love of his life Beverly, brothers Fred, Joe, Paul, George Wesley, and sisters Leila, Thelma, Alma, and Dorothy.
Services will be Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 11:00am at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Ball officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 5, 2015, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and before services on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
