Robert Allen Edwards

Following his high school graduation in 1952, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably for 4 years. He met his future bride, Pam Henss, at the University of Wisconsin St Luke’s School of Nursing in 1957 and they were married in January 1959. Upon completion of his nursing degree at St Luke’s, Bob joined the United States Air Force where he completed his Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Degree.

Bob and Pam traveled all over our country and the world with their four children while he served in the military and, after 20 years as a medical officer, Bob retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. Once his Air Force mission was complete, Bob and Pam moved to Lake Belton where Bob commenced his second career at King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Bob was a very passionate and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas. He never missed an opportunity to serve Our Lord, whether it was volunteering at Vacation Bible School, visiting ill and housebound parishioners to pray and offer Holy Communion, or constructing ramps for the physically disabled. His lifelong calling was to serve others and he did it very well.

Bob was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan who enjoyed many hobbies. One of his great joys was golfing and he was an avid player until a vision problem finally took him off the links. He was also a skilled gardener, a love he and Pam shared, and they spent many happy hours together watching the wildlife while tending their beautiful vegetables, flowers, and trees in the famous Texas heat.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jane Quandt and Jean Halstead; and his eldest son, Mark Allen Edwards.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years Pam Edwards; brother Bill (Sandy) Edwards of Wausau, WI; son David (Lisa) Edwards of South Weber, UT; daughter Sandy Edwards of Belton, TX; and daughter Dawn (Stephen) Oubre of Flowood, MS. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Nick Edwards, Heather (Scott) Morris, Kasey Brown, Kailey Oubre, Allie Oubre, and Eli Oubre, plus a great granddaughter, Henley Morris. In addition, he is survived by Pastor Grayson and Kim Albers and their children, Kylie, McKenna, Brennan, and Tristan.

A memorial service giving thanks for Bob’s life will be held Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas. A one-hour visitation will be held in the church immediately preceding the ceremony.
