Rex Myers Hawkins, age 85, of Temple died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 18, at Oak Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was born April 10, 1927 in Temple to Clyde and Patsy Johnson Hawkins. He graduated from Temple High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII. He formerly owned and operated Hawkins Drive-In Grocery in Temple. Before his retirement he was director of housekeeping at Santa Fe Hospital for many years. He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church and for 35 years he was a member of Southwest Football Officials Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Byron Hawkins and one daughter, Rexanna Hawkins. Survivors include one daughter, Sheri Harmon and husband, Kyle, two grandchildren, Gage and Grace Harmon all of Mansfield, one sister, Virginia Easterwood and his former wife, Patsy Hamil Hawkins both of Temple. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rexanna's Foundation for Fighting Lung Cancer, P. O.
