John Luther Larson, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, April 26th at Oenaville Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Oenaville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 till 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 25th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
On March 6, 1937, John was born in Belvidere, Illinois to Willard Clifford Larson and Violabelle Edith Boomgarden Larson, where he grew up on his family’s dairy farm. In 1962, while serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Hood, he met and married Shirley Mae Fuller Larson. Upon moving back to Belvidere, Illinois, they had two sons, John Luther Larson, Jr., and William Ross Larson.
In 1967, John and his young family moved back to Texas, where they settled in Troy, Texas. He worked for 25 years and retired from Duplex Paper Products. John was active in his community. He served in the Troy Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, was a member and served as president for three years of the Oenaville Community Club. He was also a 4-H leader while his sons were young and a member of Oenaville Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clifford L. Larson and Gayle Wilbur Larson; and his wife Shirley Mae Fuller Larson. He is survived by his sons, John Luther Larson, Jr. and William Ross Larson; daughter-in-law, Terri Baker-Larson; three grandchildren, John Luther Larson, III and wife, Tracy Burns, Heather Larson Lamey and husband, Todd Lamey, and Jessica Larson; and three great-grandchildren, William Burns, Benjamin Larson, and Brandon Lamey.
