Helen Ruth Jackson Harris, age 83, of Temple died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at a local hospital. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. John Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Moody Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 3 at the funeral home. Mrs. Harris was born on January 4, 1927 in Pendleton to William Thomas Jackson and Evelina Underwood Jackson. She married Leo Ray Harris on September 6, 1947 in Waco. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2000. She graduated from Moody High School and later from Hillcrest School of Nursing in 1947. She was a registered nurse for 33 years and worked at various military and VA hospitals, retiring from Temple VA Hospital. She loved gardening, playing Skip-Bo and spending time with friends and family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Troy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, Lucy Ball, Elsie Brown, Daisy Glenn, Lorena Marshall, Billie Cowan and Verna Ritch and two brothers, Thomas Jackson and Everett Jackson. Survivors include two sons, Larry Harris and wife, Susan and Jim Harris and wife, Connie all of Temple; four grandchildren, Michelle Harris Hudson and husband, Weldon of Holland, Technical Sergeant Mike Harris and wife, Jennifer of Bossier City, LA, Sara Harris Baker and husband, Zechariah of Baton Rouge, LA and Stephen Harris and wife, Lauren of Temple; eight great-grandchildren, Airman 1st Class Brandon Hudson and wife, Morgan of Bossier City, LA, Kristen Hudson of Mississippi, Kayla Hudson of Temple, Jaden Hudson of Holland, Landon Harris of Trinity; Aiden and Emma Harris of Bossier City, LA; Grace Baker of Baton Rouge, LA and great-great grandson Cameron Matthew Hudson of Bossier City, LA; one sister, Violet Gordon of Marble Falls and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers are Technical Sergeant Mike Harris, Stephen Harris, Weldon Hudson, Zechariah Baker, Airman 1st Class Brandon Hudson, and Taylon Hull. Honorary pallbearers are Stanton Marshall, Kelly Ray Ritch, Jim Furlow, Jody Orsag, Eldon Ball and Lawrence Ray Ball.
