Estelle M Jones

Estelle Marie Rodgers Jones (Estie) passed into the arms of Jesus on March 21, 2019, surrounded by family in her home, at the age of 93. Estelle was born in Temple, Texas, December 18, 1925 to Clarence DeWitt and Lois Vivien Bell Rodgers, and was raised in Temple. She spent many happy years of her youth visiting her grandparents’ farm in Rogers.

She married her high school sweetheart, Glen C. Jones, on May 25, 1946 and they made the Belton area their home, especially the Three Forks River area.

Estie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, and one grandchild, Ryland Strmiska. She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Aubrey and Harriet Jones, Randal and Linda Brewer, Tommy and Nancy Dean, Gunar and Alana Otwell, Mark and Esther Munson, all of Belton, and Geoffrey and Lisa Gibbs of Alabama. Her life was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and a beautiful example of the Proverbs 31 woman. One of her dearest delights was sewing craft items, small and large quilts in particular, so all of her children and most of her grandchildren received a quilt designed especially for each. When her hands were too gnarled to handle a needle, she began creating picture albums for the elderly at local rest homes. This was her delight and passion through the rest of her years. It reflects her love of serving others that gave her such happiness.

She was a member of the Church of Christ at South 15th and Ave. I in Temple and lived her faith by her life. Her greatest accomplishment is that she raised all six of her children to know and love the Lord Jesus. She loved to read the Biblical stories of men and women whose lives encouraged her own faith and joy. Even as we mourn the passing of our precious mother, we rejoice that she is now, as the old hymn says, “safe in the arms of Jesus”.

A time of gathering and visitation will be 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple. Services will be held 10:00 AM Monday at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will follow at Bellwood Cemetery in Temple. Several friends and family members will share precious memories as we gather to celebrate her life.
