On the morning of Thursday, September 19, 2013, Charles Edward McKenzie, 82 of Rogers and Temple, passed from this life into God's eternal kingdom. He was born to Ernest C. McKenzie and Arzena Parker McKenzie, Oct. 24, 1930 in Rogers, TX. After graduating from high school Charles joined the Navy and following his service commitment, he worked as a Painting Contractor (McKenzie Brothers Painting) with his eldest brother, Glen Elwood McKenzie for most of his career. He married Shirley Bacon in December 1975, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together in Temple. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; Ernest and Arzena McKenzie of Rogers, his sisters; Agnes Pitrucha of Killeen, Virgie Scott of Midwest City, OK, Lorene Rachui of Rockdale, and Emagene Melton of Waco, and his brother; Eugene McKenzie of Temple. Charles was a loving and dedicated man that will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, playing dominos and adoring his grandchildren. His commitment to family lives on through his wife, Shirley McKenzie, his brothers, Glen Elwood McKenzie of Temple and Vernon McKenzie of Temple and daughters, Jackie Peaslee of Colorado Springs, CO, Marilyn Casey of Poolville and Tony Wright of Ft. Worth. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Charles held a special place in his heart for Christina Culp and considered her a daughter, which blessed him with two additional grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, September 23rd from 6-8 p.m. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24th at 10:30 a.m. also at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with a burial following at the Moody Cemetery with military honors. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Wesleyan Care Center and the Wesleyan Hospice team for their support during his final days.
