Bernice Ruth Krugman, 102, beloved by all of her family and friends, went to be with Jesus on August 15, 2023. She was born on January 30, 1921 to Ernest Lebkowsky and Bertha (Scheffer) Lebkowsky in Otto, TX. She grew up on a farm in Mart, TX and was the youngest of of 6 siblings: Agnes Picha, Annie Barlow, Ernest Jr., Max, and William. She married Billy Joe Krugman on April 17, 1949 and lived in Temple and Troy most of her life.
Bernice had several interesting jobs when she was young, including making bombs during WWII, then was a homemaker for many years until going to work for V&M Drugs in Temple where she retired from. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy. She was also an active member of the Troy Sr. Citizens and enjoyed playing dominoes and laughing with her friends.
She was an avid nature lover but her greatest love was for her family and for God. She was a mighty prayer warrior until the very end and was the rock of her family. Her humor and playful joking was contagious and has been passed on to her descendants. When asked what was her secret to such as long life was, she said “You need to have at least one good belly laugh every day.” Her motto was “Never forget to laugh, even when it’s hard.” In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Skip-Bo, watching squirrels and birds out of her living room window, and watching game shows and HGTV.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Elaine Zinn and her husband Bobby Zinn, companion Claude Grisham, siblings, and many dear friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter Beth Stokes of Temple, grandsons Ryan Stokes (Dawn) of Robinson and Brett Stokes (Allison) of Belton, granddaughters Amy Edgar (Jay) of Mound City, KS and Alissa Tevis (Trent) of Haysville, KS; great-grandchildren Jayme Gabbert (Chase) of Willow Park, TX, Jace Edgar (Jessica) of Kansas, Tarent Tevis (Morgan) of Omaha, NE, Grant Tevis (Heidi) of Fort Worth, TX, Gage Stokes (Savannah) of Pueblo, CO, Ryan B., Wade, Kody, and Hana Stokes of Robinson; Noah and Liam Stokes of Belton; great-great children Lorelei Grace Tevis of Omaha, NE and Ellis Elaine Gabbert of Willow Park, TX, and 2 more great-great grandchildren (Aiden Michael and Bobby Jaymes Edgar) on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
