Milagros Cruz

Milagros, was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic to Pedro Antonio Lora and Maria Cecilia Cruz on October 19, 1958. She attended school in the Dominican Republic and later relocated to the island of Puerto Rico for better opportunities. She married Luis Cartagena on July 8, 1978 at Iglesia San Luis Rey in Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico.

She worked as an Environmental Specialist for St Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where she worked for 16 years. There she gained the love and respect of many friends with her charisma and contagious laughter. During her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling to Ocala to visit her son.

Milagros is survived by her spouse Luis, her children: Daughter Silmy, Son Joel, and Daughter Marlyn; her 7 Grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Terrance, Mikel, Carmine, Sarah, Meila’ani, Arhianna, and Camila: her brothers and sisters; Daisy, Arelis, Samuel, Eduardo, and Grisel and their spouses, as well as 9 nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 509 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602. Burial will follow at Sunset Funeral Home and Memory Gardens located at 11005 N US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL.

The family of Milagros wishes to extend our most Sincere Gratitude to Dr. Mani Vidhya and Naveena Vidhya as well as Dr. Juan Valdivia-Valdivia whom she respected and loved dearly. As well as her co-workers and the Medical Staff at St Joseph’s Hospital Main.
