Mary Ann Sellars Davis, Seffner, Fl., passed away August 17, 2018 at age 67. Mary Ann was born into a military family September 4, 1950, in the Panama Canal Zone. She also lived in Germany, Alabama, Georgia and in the 60's moved to the Miami, Fl. area (Cutler Ridge). She graduated from nearby Palmetto High School in 1968. Mary Ann then attended the University of South Florida, and graduated with a degree in Education in 1971. She married Dennis ("Den Den") Davis July 10, 1971 and settled in the Tampa area.
Mary Ann had many interests, but what she loved best was teaching, which she did for over 40 years. Early in her career, Mary Ann was privileged to teach at St. Paul School in Ybor City. In 1984, Mary Ann joined the faculty at Baldomero Lopez Elementary, teaching primarily in the Gifted Program. Being very hands-on, Mary Ann often kept live snakes in her class, soon becoming known as "The Snake Lady". In 1996-97, Mary Ann was selected Teacher of the Year at Lopez. She later obtained her Masters Degree from USF. She lovingly taught at Lopez for over 28 years, retiring in 2013.
Predeceasing Mary Ann was her mother Joan Blackwell (and stepfather Alex Blackwell), father Ralph N. Sellars, sisters Patricia Sellars and Deborah Kuchta. Mary Ann is survived by her stepmother, Kathy Sellars, of Mary Esther, Fl.
Also surviving Mary Ann is husband Dennis and son Daniel Davis (Gena), Seffner, Fl., son Steven Davis (Kristen), and granddaughters Quinne and Parker Davis, Irvine, Ca., brother Joseph Sellars (Sheri), Allen Tx., sister Barbara Sellars (Angus), Stockton, Mo.
Honoring Mary Ann's wishes, she was laid to rest in a small country cemetery outside Hinsonton, Ga. in a place, and among people, she had grown to love dearly. She rests near a cotton field, stately pine trees, and Liberty Hill Church.
