Archer Sr., John Richard 81,“ Richard or Richie” of Tampa, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Jean; two sons, John Jr. (Teresa), Ronald (Sandi); four grandchildren, John “Trey” (Kayla), David, Jonathan and Hannah; one brother, Rolan Archer(Sandi), nieces, Kimberly Layton (Tim), Gayle Pugh (Michael), and Wanda Jane Cole; three nephews, Ben Saeger (Linda), Robert Archer and Michael Archer (Nancy) and many great-nephews and great- nieces. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Robert Kelly Archer and Annie Elizabeth Winter; brothers, Robert Kelly Archer, Jr., Joseph Leo Archer and a sister, Elizabeth A. Saeger. Richard was born in 1935 and raised in Tampa, son of Robert Kelly Archer and Annie Elizabeth Winter. He went to grammar school in a little one-room schoolhouse in Citrus Park near where is parents and grandparents ran Archer’s Standard Dairy. He attended Memorial Jr. High and Hillsborough High School where he met Jean. They married shortly after graduation in 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tampa. Richard joined the Air Force and served with the Security Service stationed in Germany. Upon returning to civilian life in 1958, he began working for Tampa Electric Company, starting out on a pole-setting crew and working his way up to Manager of Transportation before retiring in 1995. He served as president of the Electric Utilities Fleet Managers Conference in Williamsburg in 1986-87 and was active in that organization for many years. He was a member of the charter class of University of South Florida in 1960, graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1968. He was a charter member of Our Redeemer in 1958 and Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1985. His faith was strong and he was very involved with church activities. He loved to read, travel and cruise and always had a Sudoku puzzle going. Most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren. The memorial service is at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 304 Druid Hills Rd. Temple Terrace, Fl., at 11 am on January 28,2017 with interment in the memorial gardens at the church and a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund at Christ Our Redeemer or Metropolitan Ministries.
