Dorothy Marie Gonzalez

Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph’s School in West Tampa and OLPH Catholic School in Ybor City. Dorothy entered the workforce immediately upon graduation from High School and was recruited to a series of positions, mostly centered around finance, investment and real estate. She and Henry also engaged in several small business adventures, including batting cages and a sporting goods store in Temple Terrace. Dorothy was highly regarded and valued in every position she ever occupied. She excelled!

Family was Priority One for Dorothy, in a true partnership with her high school sweetheart and husband, Enrique "Henry" Gonzalez. They were married for over 56 years and had two children, Lola and Enrico "Rico". Dorothy cherished her Catholic faith, friends, good food and, along with her husband, cars and sports, especially baseball. She was creative, expressing herself through crochet and knitting and was particularly proud of authoring a children’s book, “Hershey Finds A Home”, with Henry providing the illustrations.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her beloved son, Rico, her parents and her half-siblings, Pete, Steven and Stella Barcena. She is survived by her daughter, Lola Stein (Andrew); her daughter-in-law, Lisa; grandchildren Lauren and Robert "Robbie" Cusmano, and Lena and Rico Gonzalez; sisters Loretta Allewelt and Kathy Betancourt; nephews Wayne and Sean Allewelt and niece Elizabeth Allewelt Rich. Dorothy will be greatly missed by many, including the friends she made at Concordia Village, especially Rose.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Blount & Curry Terrace Oaks Chapel. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 12 noon on Monday, Jan. 31 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Centro Asturiano Memorial Park.
