Mr. Garland John Smith age 67 of Morristown, TN was born January 5, 1949 and passed away November 10, 2016 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. John was saved at an early age. He was a man of admirable strength and carried out his life with an unwavering faith and devotion to God and his family. John was drafted into the United States Army , where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the 210 Combat Aviation Group as a Corporal Specialist. He worked in the coal industry for over 30 years; he was a loving and devoted care-giver to his wife Sharon and mother Allie; but most of all he was a loving son, husband, father & “Poppy” and a friend to all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Sharon; father and mother, Carl and Allie Miles Smith; brothers, Boyd Stotts, Jr., Charles Edward Smith.
He is survived by his children: Johnny Smith of Morristown, TN
Angie and Kevin Misenheimer of Morristown, TN
Josh Smith of Morristown, TN
Grandchildren: Madison, Grant, Kade, Dalton, and Ellie
Brothers: Carles (Joyce) Smith of Alabama
Mike (Charlene) Smith of New Tazewell, TN
Sisters: Zonia Milligan of Louisville, TN
Annette (Waymon) Robbins of New Tazewell, TN
Several special Sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2 P.M. Monday November 14, 2016 at Coffey Funeral Home in New Tazewell, TN with funeral service to follow at 2:00P.M. in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in the Greer Cemetery with Military Honors.
