It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Leo Haessly III, who left this world on April 23, 2024, at the age of 55. He was born on January 17, 1969 to John Gregory Haessly and Henrietta Marek Haessly. Tom was a resident of Belton, TX, and grew up in Spring, TX. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. Known for his creativity, artistic talent, boundless curiosity, and wholehearted kindness. Tom touched the lives of all who knew him.
Tom was one of the first of his friends and family to have a computer, and he was an excellent student, graduating from Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas (Class of 1987) and earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Sam Houston State in Huntsville. He had a career as a software developer in the healthcare industry, where he brought not only his technical skills but also an innovative approach to each project. Tom met the love of his life, Paty O. Haessly of Mexico City, Mexico in Houston, TX and they were married in Spring, TX on August 19, 2007. Beyond his educational and professional life, Tom was an avid reader and board game enthusiast, often found surrounded by books or engaging in spirited gameplay with friends and family. He loved spending time with his nephews and would host a “Brothers weekend” each fall with movies, pumpkin carving, and board games. Tom was an artist; making paintings, drawings, and hand-drawn greeting cards for friends and family. And, if you knew Tom, you knew his witty, pun-filled, playful, lovingly irreverent sense of humor that came across in everything he did.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta, who gave him his passion for politics and current events. And by his In-laws, Martha and Jose Olachea. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 17 years, Paty; father John; sister Andrea; sister Tanya Hamlin and brother-in-law Mathew Hamlin and their sons Greyson and Everett, his brother Robert and sister-in-law Holly and her children Bowen and Miley. And by many aunts and uncles, twenty-one first cousins, and a community of friends and coworkers who felt his warmth and generosity.
Visitation will be on Sunday April 28th, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 7pm, at the Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett, TX. Funeral services will be held at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church in Granger, TX, on Monday, April 29th at 11:00AM with burial to follow at Holy Cross cemetery in Granger, TX.
In memory of Tom, contributions may be made to the Belton Public Library continuing his legacy of kindness and community support. Flowers may be ordered through Unique Celebrations in Bartlett, TX, 254-527-3324 for those wishing to express their condolences in this manner.
Tom’s legacy of love, creativity, and curiosity will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
