He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and William B. Westall of Randle, WA and his brother, Robert Westall of Lewisville, TX.
William (Bill) is survived by his wife, Chong S. Westall; his daughters Susan Cunnington of Orlando and Malinda Shughart and her husband Lonnie Shughart, of Tampa and his son William Westall, Jr. of Madisonville, TN; his sisters, Neta Welever and Anne Lowe, both of Randle, WA and his brother, John Clifton Westall of Chehalis WA; his ten grandchildren, Jessica, Bo, Bachus, Ian, Trevor, Grace, Colby, Ethan, Nathan and Naiya; and one great-granddaughter, Naomi.
Bill was born in Sacramento, CA on August 29, 1941. He grew up in Randle, WA and graduated from White Pass High School, then briefly attended Washington State University before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1962. Bill had a distinguished career in the Air Force as an electronics technician, serving in both Vietnam and Korea. He retired after 23 years with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for several years before retiring.
Bill was keenly interested in electronics from an early age and continued that interest throughout his life. He enjoyed programming early Commodore computers and went on to learn several programing languages. He was also an avid and skilled wood worker, spending many happy hours in his wood shop creating beautiful items for family and friends. Bill was very interested in genealogy and amassed volumes of information on his family and did research for others. He was also a great lover of sudoku, cryptograms and all manner of puzzles. He enjoyed sharing this passion with his children and grandchildren.
We will miss him deeply but are comforted by knowing that he is at peace with his Creator after a long battle with illness.
Visitation will be held on Sunday May 23, 2021 from 2-4pm at Blount Curry Macdill 605 S. Macdill Ave, Tampa FL 33609. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 24th at 11 am at Blount Curry Macdill with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery.
