He was born in Flint, Michigan on December 4, 1933 to Bill & Ruby Todd. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where his intelligence and passion for learning developed into a lifelong career in dentistry. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Mary Anne, and they moved to Germany where Bill served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. Bill and Mary Anne traveled the world together and eventually the lure of warm weather and water led them to settle in Tampa, where Bill practiced dentistry for over 50 years. Bill was truly dedicated to the care of his patients and was known by his colleagues and patients as a compassionate and caring doctor and friend.
He was a member of the Florida Dental Association, Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, and Davis Island Yacht Club. He enjoyed countless hours and trips to the Bahamas with family and friends aboard his sailboat, the "Mary Anne". What Bill loved even more than sailing were the friends he made along the way.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne, Bill is survived by his children Kathy (John) Faircloth and Cindy (Chip) Darnell and his grandchildren Kelly, JT, Billy and Jackie.
Nothing was more important to Bill than his family, and he will always be remembered for the love and dedication he had to those he held closest to his heart. Bill was happiest when surrounded by immediate and extended family, and loved spending time with them at his beach house in Belleair Beach and farm in Dade City.
Bill was a remarkable dentist loved by his patients and colleagues and a role model to all. He embodied a special blend of strength, wisdom, and humor. His legacy as a beloved husband, father, and grandfather will forever live on through his family.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at Davis Island Yacht Club on Wednesday, November 6th. A short service will start downstairs in the outside pavilion at 5pm followed by a celebration of life. Dress is Key West casual. Park in the grass located in Guest parking area.
