Following heart surgery at Tampa General Hospital, William L. Scull Sr. passed away on August 9, 2022 under hospice care, at the age of 82, his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his father, Stan and his mother, Cleo (nee Hite). He leaves behind his wife, Marie (nee Infante); his daughter, Laurie (Easterlin) and her husband Abbot; his sons, James and his wife Hiroe and William Jr.; his brother, John; and five grandchildren, Ansley, Julia, River, Joshua and Daniel.
William was born in Teaneck, N.J. On March 23rd, 1940. He became interested in all things mechanical at an early age and, in addition to normal schooling, attended a special school to study motor scooter vehicles and engines. His mechanical abilities continued to expand during his time in high school, and he went on to get a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey in 1965. This was followed by a long career in engineering, working for Leslie Controls in Parsippany, N.J., creating many innovative valve designs, many which were patented under his name. He eventually worked his way up to vice president of engineering at the company, which moved from Parsippany, N.J. To Tampa, Fl. In 1986. He continued working for Leslie Controls until 1991, when he started a new career in forensic engineering, becoming a partner in Rimbey, Howell and Rimbey, Inc., an engineering consulting firm in Temple Terrace, Fl., becoming well-known as a competent consultant who gave expert advice in legal cases requiring engineering expertise, complex problem solving and detailed analysis. He retired in 2004.
His hobbies included fishing, sports cars, avid reading, as well as trail biking on the many trails of the Hillsborough County park system. He enjoyed spending almost every weekend with his family and grandchildren, and was deeply loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a hard working, loving father, husband and grandfather, who gave his all to anything he decided to invest in. His wisdom and intelligence were complemented by his patience and willingness to give the best guidance he could on any matter. He always found time to help his family, regardless of the matter at hand, and could be depended on to give advice on any subject that came up. He was practical yet innovative, calm yet passionate about what he loved, decisive yet open minded and, best of all, always there for those he loved. He was an exemplary husband, father and grandfather, and will be very missed by all those who loved him.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 11am at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service there will be a light lunch reception followed by a graveside service at Trinity Memorial Garden, located at 12609 Memorial Dr.,Trinity, FL 34655.
