Valerie was born in Corning, NY on July 27, 1943 to Norman Max Wisner and Mary Rowena Wisner. After graduating from Watkins Glen Central School in Watkins Glen, NY in 1961, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Brockport State University in 1966. She worked as a teacher for various schools including Caledonia-Mumford and Bishop Kearney in NY. She received two Master’s Degrees from North Carolina State University. She retired in 2008 as Assistant Principal at Leesville Road Middle School in Raleigh, NC. Altogether, she was in the education field for over 30 years.
After college, she was married to Lewis Wilson, Jr. for 17 years. Together, they had three children, Lewis III, Jason (Jesse), and Sarah. In 1986, Valerie married Ronald J. Howe and was a loving wife until his death in 2013. Although her last marriage was the shortest, she knew Stephen Hinman the longest. They were high school sweethearts that went their separate ways, but reconnected at their 50th high school reunion. On March 16th, 2016, they were married in Williston, FL. They spent their last years enjoying their time together at Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club.
Valerie was a devout Catholic and attended church regularly. In fact, one of Valerie’s most beloved places was the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard, NY. Her interests included mountain climbing, sewing, knitting, card making, stamping, and iconography — the last of which she did at the Benedictine Abbey in St. Leo, Florida. She also was an active member of the Pink Ladies Rowing Team in Tampa, FL.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents Norman (Max) Wisner and Rowena Wisner of Rock Stream, NY, and her former husband, Ronald Howe.
