Samir Hanna Haddad, of South Tampa, FL, was called home to our maker on August 15th, 2021, the day of The Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. He was born in Kfarhouna in the Jezzine District of Lebanon on September 19, 1945.
As the third of six sons born to Hanna & Ramzieh Haddad, Sam came from very humble beginnings. Despite the hardships of his early life, he never gave up hope. He championed hard work, took responsibility, and always maintained his integrity. He had a passion for learning, and spent his life bettering himself and others through education. The humble man from the mountains was able to graduate from Saint-Joseph University Beirut with a degree in Business & Banking; he also completed three years of Law school, but due to a civil war his studies were abruptly cut short. He and the love of his life Catherine made a decisive decision to leave everything behind to start a new life in America. There, they joined their relatives and made Tampa their new home, which provided stability and opportunity for the next generation of their family.
He spent more than 50 years of his life holding various management and leadership roles, and spent most of that time in the Oil and Gas Industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Sam was extremely well read, had full knowledge of world history, and keen understanding of our society. He was a man larger than life who could relate to a stranger from any place or any faith, and in an instant could relate to them the history of their ancestors faster than any internet search. Although a man of few words, he had a heartfelt sense of humor, and everyone who met him wanted to know him more. His life was driven by solid principles and values, and he was selfless throughout focusing on the betterment of his family and friends.
Sam is survived by his dear and loving wife Catherine, who never left his side in the 45 years they were together. With his departure, he also leaves behind two sons and four daughters: Fadi Haddad and wife Mary, Hani Haddad, Rania Regner and husband Matthew, Zeyna Sawaya and husband George, Nada Haddad, and Sara Araj and husband Dany. His grandchildren include Sammi, Hanna, Daniel, and Marc. A funeral service for Samir will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 509 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602, on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at 1:00 PM at the Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610.
