Roberta S. “Bert” Harvey, 91, Tampa native and lifelong resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Bert was predeceased by the love of her life, Charles M. “Charley” Harvey, her husband of 61 years. She is survived by three children: Charles “Chuck” M. Harvey Jr. (Wendy), John Richard “Rick” Harvey (Janet) and Kimberly “Kim” Harvey Brannan (John). Bert considered Donna Roberts Hires (Billy) as a “second daughter adopted by the heart.” Bert was a doting grandmother and adored her nine grandchildren: Kalyn Harvey Slagle (Brian), Dane Landan Harvey (Sarah), Jeannette Frantz Spivey (Bob), Ryan Frantz (Nicole), Jillian Rose Harvey, Jennifer Louise Harvey, John Barkley Brannan, Jr., Mark Harvey Brannan and Laura Elsie Brannan. Her “adopted” grandsons include Eric Thomas Hires and Matthew Christian Hires (Rachel). She is also survived by six precious great grandchildren: Matthew Paul Spivey, Daniel Robert Spivey, Corey Ryan Frantz, Christian Nicholas Frantz, Kayl Brison Slagle and Bliss Alexandra Slagle. Bert is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Harvey, and many well-loved nieces and nephews, including Pam Windham, who helped care for her over the past six months. She enjoyed a long, happy life filled with joy and gratitude. The three most treasured things in Bert’s life were her faith, family and friendships. She possessed a special sparkle that would light up a room with her kindness and generosity of spirit. She loved the many dedicated staff members with The Estate at Hyde Park where she lived the past four years. She was grateful for each person as they tenderly cared for her, filling her later years with laughter, love and contentment. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Bert on Friday, July 15th at 3:00 p.m. at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, 1309 Swann Avenue, Tampa, Florida, 33606. A reception will be held immediately following in the Ken & Robin Shick Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Bert’s life through contributions to a ministry which was very special to her: Missionary Ventures International, designated for Hires Ministry, 5144 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL 32809.
