Robert Mack Cornett, Sr. of Tampa, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 22, 2023. He was a devoted husband, a father, grandfather and loyal friend. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Linda; three children, Laurie Watts, Rob Cornett and Cher Crum; four grandchildren, Brittney Benoit Crespo, Zachary Watts, Nicholas Watts and Derek Crum; and Great Grandchildren, Olivia and Christian Crespo, brother Ben Cornett (Lynn) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Libby Jester (Charles) of Tampa, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Robert (Bob) was born in Laurel, MS on March 9, 1939 and raised in Hattiesburg, MS where he was known as an exceptional athlete in all sports. He attended Tulane University on a football scholarship where he earned a BA and BS degree in History and Political Science. He was an All-Southeastern Conference performer and standout catcher for the Tulane University Green Wave.
Bob was an avid and respected golfer having the reputation as the “ultimate scratch golfer” and nicknamed “Scrap Iron” by his friends. He also loved fishing and hunting.
In 1977 he was founder, owner and CEO of Bolt and Nut, Inc. of Tampa until sold in 2018 and Hurri-Bolt, Inc. founded in 1998 where he continued as Owner, President/CEO until it’s sale in 2021. He has been an active member of Idlewild Baptist Church since 1987, an active member of Avila Golf and Country Club since its inception and a past member of Carrollwood Village Golf and Country Club.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee and Helen Cornett and his brothers, Homer Lee Cornett, Jr. and Charles Cornett.
A celebration of life will be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd. Lutz, FL on July 28, 2023 at 11:00AM with family visitation at 10:00AM. Interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date.
