Patricia Ann Hunter

Patricia Ann “Pat” Hunter, age 90, passed away on March 20, 2023 in Tampa, Florida. Pat was born in Greeneville, Tennessee to Charles Carroll Scott and Evelyn Marjorie Peterson on July 19, 1932. Pat was raised in both Tennessee and Indiana, where she graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1950.

Over the course of her life, Pat lived in both the United States and abroad. At the beginning of her first marriage to Richard Delmar Hunter (deceased), she lived in South Bend, Indiana. She had three sons, Stephen, Gregory and Eric, and was a wonderful and loving mother. In 1960, the family moved to Tampa, Florida to support her husband as one of the opening faculty members of the newly established University of South Florida. Pat raised her sons in both Tampa and in Orlando. After the end of her first marriage, she returned to Tampa and USF where she earned her Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. Not only did she begin a new career, working in the Orange County School system, she also began what would become the most remarkable chapter of her life.

Her curious, intellectual nature and positive outlook led Pat to take a job opportunity in the early 80’s with the Department of Defense as a speech pathologist assisting military dependents in Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern, Germany. Over the course of her tenure, Pat traveled to countless countries all over the world, and made wonderful lifelong friends. While in Germany, she met and eventually married Frank Styles, a fun-loving Brit whose adventurous nature complemented Pat’s joie de vivre.

Upon her retirement, Pat returned to the Northdale area of Tampa, where she played golf, supported her cultural interests with classes and fed her love of travel, this time with family and friends both domestically and around the world. She never forgot a birthday or special moment and was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.

Pat is preceded in death by her son Eric Hunter, brother Jerry, brother-in-law Ron Williams, granddaughter Amber Hunter, and Frank Styles. Pat is survived by sons Stephen (Elisabeth) Hunter and Gregory Hunter, sister Linda Hays Williams, daughter-in-law Darcy Hunter, step daughters Johanna (Mark) Holliday and Caroline Styles (Chris) Shead, grandchildren Stephanie (Michael) Kruse, Carson (Jocelyn) Hunter, Dustin (Allison) Hunter, Brent Hunter, Carly Hunter (Austin), step-grandchildren Jack Holliday and Tom Holliday, and great-grandchildren Lily, Grayson, Muirreall, Ewan, Fenella, Nicholas, Livia, Carson, Caroline, Anastyn, Caden, and Rhett.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 AM at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club, 200 Inverness Avenue, Temple Terrace, Florida, 33617. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the University of South Florida Foundation, Eric D. Hunter Memorial fund.
