She was born in Tampa, Fl. September 23, 1927, to Consuelo de la Parte Llano and Benigno LLano. She passed away in Tampa, November 19, 2023.
Her first teacher was Mrs. Holiday in Hyde Park, and her mother imparted a rigorous practice regime in their home on 10th Avenue. She went on to earn a degree in piano performance from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. There she met and became a lifelong friend of the famed children's television host Fred Rogers and his wife, Joanne. She earned advanced degrees, including a Doctor of Music Appreciation from Northwestern University and from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. She also taught at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
Her private teachers included Rudolph Ganz, Arthur Loesser, and the world-renowned Alicia de Larrocha.
Besides Carnegie Hall, Olga performed at the Chautauqua Amphitheater in New York and at Chicago's Orchestra Hall, as well as at some of the most famous music venues in America, Europe and Asia. She gave recitals at the official residences of U.S. Ambassadors and Consuls.
She was a lifelong music scholar, specializing in the works of the Spanish masters. She published six anthologies on the music of Albeniz and Granados, including her last book, Espana by Albeniz. She also wrote articles for musical magazines, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.
Her legacy will be perpetuated by her piano students, many of whom she taught with much joy in her later years in her home in Palma Ceia. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Warren Kuehl, a devoted activist for World Peace and a professor of History at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio.; her second husband Dr. Jeffery White, an Ophtalmologist; and by her son, Paul Kuehl. She is survived by her son, Marshall Kuehl.
Wherever Olga traveled or lived, she frequently returned to her family in Tampa. She often made those gatherings memorable by playing the Malaguena and giving piano lessons to the family.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Friday Morning Musicale, 809 W Horatio St, Tampa, FL 33606 on Saturday, January 13, at 3 p.m.
