ALVAREZ, NELL SCOTT, 87, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018, after an extended illness. Nell a 69-year resident of Tampa, was born in Laurel, Mississippi to Arthur and Gladys Scott on June 19, 1931. She was the third remaining sibling survivor to 6 sisters and 3 brothers and is survived by that one sister, Ann Stewart and one brother Gary Scott, who both still reside in Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her former husband Gilbert “Babe “Álvarez of Tampa, Florida.
Survivors include two daughters Gilda Alvarez Gurley and husband Jim, and Mary Ann Alvarez Crawford; four grandchildren, Jaime Gurley Helms (husband Josh), Justin Gurley, Taylor Crawford, and Madison Crawford: and three great grandchildren, Rory Helms, Rhett Helms and Renley Grace Helms.
After a 25-year career managing Wolf Brothers (West Shore Ladies department), she devoted her retirement years to the molding and nurturing of several young children in the South Tampa area and was known to all as “Nani”.
So “Nani “has an extensive list of extended Children and Grandchildren. In her limited spare time, she acquired a passion for the Tampa Bay Rays, Poker and a glass of Chardonnay.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Wednesday, December 26th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm will a short memorial service to follow at 6:30pm at Blount and Curry Macdill, 605 South MacDill Ave Tampa, FL.
