Fred G Heming, age 100, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, 2 weeks shy of his 101st birthday. Fred, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, was one of 10 children born to the late Henry and Angie Heming.
At the age of 17 Fred joined the United States Navy alongside his brother the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team, now known as the Frogmen or the Navy SEALs. He was a part of the largest amphibious invasion in military history, storming the Beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Fred returned home from the war, but his brother did not.
He met and married the love of his life, Eula Mae. Together the built a life and a loving home for their son and daughter. Fred drove a tractor trailer hauling goods all over the United States for Central Trucking. He retired from a 40 year trucking career accident free. He then worked 20 years for Winn Dixie, brightening the mornings of coworkers and customers with his bright smiling face.
He was preceded in death by Eula Mae, his beloved wife for 52 years, son Larry Gene, son-in-law Johnnie H. Sutton, and granddaughter Melanie.
Fred is survived by daughter Donna Lyne Sutton, grandchildren; Sam, Ron,
Janine, Lisa, great grandchildren Zoë and Sean, extended family and friends too numerous to mention.
