Ferris "Kin" Gaskin Cook

Kin was born in Montgomery, Al to Ferris Gaskin Cook Sr. and Lena O’mera Majors Cook on March 4th, 1957. He grew up in Brandon, Fl and attended Brandon High School. He married Lisa Burnette Regalado on October 21st, 1989.

Kin had two bachelor’s degrees, one in Finance from Florida State University and one in Information Technology from the University of South Florida. He started his career in Sales where he worked for several companies including GTE Directories selling yellow page ads. When he left GTE, he went back to school and got his information technology degree. He then worked for Hillsborough County, Florida Steel which became Gerdau Ameristeel and then WellMed as an acquisition manager before he retired.

Kin loved to go to estate sales and was an avid collector. Anyone who knew him knew it was all about making the deal, not the items. For many years he was a potterer specializing in raku pottery. In recent years he loved to spend summers in Sylva, NC. He was active in politics and loved to help others. He volunteered with several organizations including Transition Masters and Florida Food Force Incorporated.

Kin is preceded in death by his parents, Ferris Gaskin Cook Sr. and Lena O’mera Cook.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lisa Burnette Cook, Son Alex Cook (Laura) of Chantilly VA, Stepson Travis Regalado (Jackie) of Denver, NC, Brother Jeffrey Cook (Shirley) of Valrico, FL, Sister Melissa Parks (Dan) of Brandon, Fl. Grandchildren Ava, Cassie and Connor, Twenty nieces and nephews and twenty-four great nieces and nephews.

Kin had such a warm love for life and his family. He will be missed and will leave a void in many lives.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday June 10th, 2023, at the Blount and Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood location in Tampa. Visitation is at 1:00 p.m. with the service to start at 2:00 p.m. A sit-down late lunch, early dinner will follow the service at the funeral home.

The family asks In lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
