He retired from the Army in 1973 to Tampa, FL, where he enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration program at the University of Tampa. There, he accepted a teaching position and chaired the Business Department for a term before retiring from the university in 1992. During their 58 years of marriage, Colonel Richards and his wife Annmarie enjoyed an active life together, boating, traveling and attending orchid shows, as well as volunteering for the American Red Cross. They are survived by their children, Judithe, David, Patricia, Carolyne and Suzanne; their grandchildren, George, Russell, Zebulon, Zachary, Samuel and Amanda; and two great granddaughters.
