Edwin was born the youngest of three in August 1931 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Edwin Sr. & Una Thompson and was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years, Catherine Thompson.
Having grown up primarily in Gadsden, Alabama, he was a Sea Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Before retiring, he worked many years as a Senior Safety Engineer and Loss Control Engineer for several local insurance agencies and national insurance companies, having earned a reputation for being a go-to authority for anything occupational health, fire safety, loss prevention, and risk management.
He was a military veteran having served honorably in the United States Navy Submarine Service. He was involved for many years with the Tampa Area Safety Council (TASC), as well as the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), held certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and was an active member of the US Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) Sea Poacher and Tang Bases.
Edwin is survived by his son David and his wife Raynell and two adult step grandchildren, Holly & Charles of Lutz, FL, and grandson Cameron and his wife Meghan and three great grandchildren of Virginia Beach, VA. He was a humble, unassuming man asking nothing more than to be remembered in his death as he would be remembered in his life.
