Born in Muskegon, Michigan on May 13, 1930, Ed was a longtime resident of Whitehall, Michigan and a graduate of Whitehall High School. He served in the Navy in the construction battalion known as the Seabees, and was stationed in various locations in the US and the Pacific arena. In 1951 he married Mary Meikle and they were happily married for 62 years until her death in 2013. Ed founded Armstrong Electric and was proud to be a Whitehall businessman for many years. Ed and Mary raised four children and belonged to Lebanon Lutheran Church in Whitehall until they relocated to Florida in 1979.
Ed is survived by his four children: Kimberly Gardner (Mark), Valerie Harley, Alison Nicol and Edward David Armstrong (Patty). He is also survived by his two sisters, Joyce Pouba and Janice Era, and by his nine grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary, his parents, Edward and Helen Armstrong, and his sister Delores and brother Royce.
The family will honor Ed’s request to scatter his ashes in a private service at the site where Mary’s ashes were scattered in 2013. He will be remembered by his family for his “can do” positivity, sense of humor and steadfast devotion to always putting his family first.
