Winstead, Donald Linwood “Jingles”, 88, of Tampa, passed away on July 16, 2015. He was an energetic man with a sense of humor that kept his friends, family and even strangers laughing. He loved to tell jokes and was always available to help a friend. He was an athletic, active man who enjoyed life to its fullest. His enjoyments included hunting, fishing, caring for his orchids and for his wife. He was born in Jacksonville, FL in 1927 and moved to Tampa after retiring in 1985. He served in the United States Navy in the Seabees on Okinawa during World War II. He spent 35 years in the offset printing business for AM International. He was a Mason for over 50 years, earning the nickname “Jingles” for his work as a clown with the Morocco Shrine Temple and Egypt Shrine Temple, and a member of Riverside Masonic Lodge, Jacksonville, FL; Fellowship Masonic Lodge, Tampa, FL; and Windhorst Masonic Lodge, Tampa, FL. He was a faithful member of Bayshore Baptist Church. He was the self-appointed ambassador of Mama’s Kitchen in South Tampa. He was also a member of the Interbay YMCA since 1989. Donald will be forever remembered by his wife, Nellie Cydelle Winstead, whom he loved dearly. Don was preceded in death by his only brother, Douglas G. Winstead and his loving sister-in-law, Sylvia Winstead. His parents were Fairrell Estelle Winstead and Linwood F. Winstead, both deceased. His grandparents were Mabry G. Henderson and Pearl Davis Henderson of Blackshear, GA and Lula Parker Winstead and Thadeus Winstead. Survivors include his loving nieces and nephews, Garnetta Hicks, Lindie Farnsworth, Douglas G. Winstead Jr., and their families as well as a special son, Paul L. Farrar and family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners’ Children’s Hospital, The Masonic Home of St. Petersburg, the Humane Society or the Gold Shield Foundation. Visitation at Gonzalez Funeral Home on Monday May 20, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral service at Bay shore Baptist Church, 3111 W Morrison Ave, Tampa, on Tuesday at 11:00, followed by Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
