Born December 19, 1935. He went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2024. He was 88 years old. Growing up in Memphis he attended a local school graduating from South Side High School the same year as Elvis (different schools). Memphis University (formerly Memphis State) undergraduate school. Always a big fan of Memphis Basketball (go Tigers). Medical degree from the University of Tennessee. Choosing Tampa General for internship and residency under J. Brown Farrior, MD. Residency was interrupted by a call from USAF “The Berlin Crisis” to Minot, ND taking his new bride to the cold country for 2 years. Returning home, finishing his residency, he started a practice of Otolaryngology (ENT) in 1966, in the Medical Arts Bldg. and at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 40 years. He was Fellow American Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Fellow American College of Surgeons, Fellow American Head and Neck Surgery. He loved the Florida beaches, playing tennis, and golf. Donald's patients were the best and he said his years in practice were the golden years. Retired 2005 to summers in Cashiers, NC in Sheep Cliff Woods.
He was predeceased by his parents Louise Parham Irvine and Crawford William Irvine, Sister Carolyn I. Harty, and Leigh Harty. Beloved in-laws helping him get established, Doris B. Garcia, and Manuel Garcia. Sister-in-law Joan Garcia Gilreath.
Donald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Trudi Garcia Irvine. Children Donald William Irvine Jr., and wife Pam M. Irvine; Christopher Scott Irvine, and wife Pam Polen Irvine; grandchild John Scott Irvine; daughter Drake Irvine; Niece Anna H Basco, Nephew Thomas Walter Harty. Sister-in-law Suzannah Garcia O’Brien, Hartley Watson Cooper, Isle of Palms, SC, Caroline Cooper and John Cooper. Nelson and Linda Gilreath. Nieces Katherine Gilreath Counce, Black Mountain. Dave and Tanner Gilreath Sobelman, Mabry and Henry Sobelman.
Funeral Services will be held at Blount & Curry MacDill, on Saturday, December 21st at 11:00 AM, and a reception to follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, Donald would appreciate contributions to Calvary Community Church of Tampa at 4811 George Rd, Tampa, FL, 33634.
