BEST, DIZ A , 89 years old, born in Harlan, Iowa on October 26, 1932 passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2021 surrounded by family. She was a graduate of Harlan High School in 1951. She married Floyd “Chuck” Best (CMSgt-Retired) in Topeka, KS who sadly passed away June 1987.
They had the pleasure of traveling the world being part of the USAF. They lived in Taiwan, Spain, Germany, Philippines and many more stateside locations.
Diz held many titles while traveling with Chuck. She served as President of the NCO Wives club at many of the AFB posts they were stationed at.
Diz was active with Masonic Organizations: OES – Order of Eastern Star (Past Worthy Matron of Port Tampa #178, Past Grand Chaplain of the State of Florida) , Daughters of the Nile (Past Queen, Chapter 76, Tampa), Order of the Rainbow for Girls (Mother Advisor).
The biggest joy in her life was being a “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will always remember her as the woman who knew how to dress like a queen, was always colorful, and could light up a room and have you laughing hysterically.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her son Lloyd “Chuck” Best; her daughters Debbie (Bob) Lowe and Dee (Chris) Helbig; her grandchildren Kimberly Riley, Kevin Lowe, Michelle (Kenney) Fichter, and Dakota Helbig; her great-grandchildren Alyssa Riley, Grayson Fichter, and Remi Fichter; and many more extended family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Gardens of Memories, 4207 East Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610 on Thursday, December 23, 2021. Visitation begins at 1pm with services at 2pm followed by grave site burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the following: Order of Eastern Star – Palma Ceia Chapter#243, Daughters of the Nile Chapter #76 or The Masonic Home,
St. Petersburg, Florida.
