David H. Fierke

Fierke, David H., age 66 of Tampa, Florida peacefully passed away at Melech Hospice House on May 25, after a 4.5 year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer with his beloved wife, Pat and dog, Joy at his side.

David was born in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1951 to Alfred(Ned) and Gloria Fierke. His father's army deployments meant years growing up both stateside and in Europe and Asia. His formative years were spent in the Virginia suburbs outside of Washington DC.

In 1973 David graduated from Babson College with a degree in investments leading to a long career in the field of finance. For the last 29 years he and Pat have made their home in Tampa, Florida. David joined the State of Florida Department of Financial Services in 2006 and was due to retire this June.

A man of great integrity, loyalty and honor, David was unassuming and had a terrific sense of humor, always enjoying a good laugh and life in general.

Many thanks to our families, friends, and neighbors who provided love, comfort and support on this journey.

The family also wants to express its deepest appreciation to the doctors and staff at Moffitt Cancer Center; especially the blood draw and infusion centers, and the GI and Vitality clinics. Your love, compassion and the care that you provided David and his wife Pat gave them the courage and determination these past many years.

A special note of gratitude to David's work family: The State of Florida Department of Financial Services, who provided their unending support. You are forever in the family's hearts.

David was preceded in death by his father, Alfred H. Fierke and his mother, Gloria H. Fierke. He is survived by his wife, Pat; his sisters, Chris Thomas of Chicago and Karen Bachman of Atlanta in addition to their spouses Matt and Bob respectively, and many loving nieces and nephews.
