I think of Mom every day thought it would be easier by now. Today I went to Stefano's restaurant. Mom would invite me to accompany her when she would meet her classmates from High School " yes 1955"once a month. I took a special friend "Edith "visiting me from Virginia. Mom would have like her.  We enjoyed our meal while I shared with Edith fond memories of Mom. So much I have done in this year of retirement wanting/missing times we could have made so many more memories together, love and miss Mom so much.

It's been a year since Mom passed and I don't think a day has gone by she isn't in my thoughts.  So many things we were supposed to do once I was divorced - single Holland ladies out and about!  On the more  mellow side, we'd made plans to go RV camping.   Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance but Sydney and I went last year - camping on the other coast.  Mom would have loved it,  the quiet of the woods, walking and enjoying nature.  I know she was with us.
I want to share these thoughts Deb found at mom's after she passed.  Sydney had written them as part of a family project in middle school.   So true ....

"I respect my Grandma the most because she never quits going.  She's like the bunny on the Energizer battery commercials.  My Grandma just keeps going and is always helping out.  She is 69 years old and is still working and taking care of her animals  Every year she has a Christmas, Easter and New Year's party no matter how hard or exhausting. She always does whatever it takes to see her family and that's why I love and respect her."

She was not a stepmom to me, she was my 2nd Mom and for a handful of years, the 1st.  Always ready for a spiked cup of coffee or just a good old cocktail. Always supportive and most importantly loyal to my Father in sickness and in health. I will forever remember her infectious laugh (also a cocktail meter)and her loving heart. I still think of calling her when I see things that remind me of my Dad. The time she spent with us here cannot be replaced, but will always be cherished.  I miss her everyday.  I can't wait to be with her again one day so we can throw back a couple of greyhounds and chase it with some Amaretto. My heart has a hole in it that will heal slowly but eventually.  I'll see you soon....

Carole, your kindness, abundance of love & caring & bright sense of humor will be missed.  Our lives have been enriched knowing you.  Love you cuz! Rest in peace.

Our time together is my favorite memory. We loved the beach and every time we went we left all our worries and troubles behind. We talked about opening a home for all unwanted critters. We were always happy when we were at the Humane Society or the beach. She loved goldens and would light up when she saw one. To her children, she loved you all dearly was proud of each one of you. I have millions of wonderful memories of my mother. All the times of  mom planning and cooking (what a great cook) for everyone as it was important to her to bring family together. Her thoughtful ways as she would help anyone. She volunteered at St Joseph Hospital , was involved with her church feeding the homeless .She loved animals and would fix and give a home to stray cats, as well dogs who would need a forever home from finding them or adopting through the Humane Society, and they loved her back. A strong willed and nurturing mom she fought the system of girls not being allowed to play baseball and with help from the president  of the boys little league ,the first team of girls softball was born in South Tampa. We may have only had 1 team and 7 players the first season but I was so proud and thankful of her perseverance. Mom spent many hours after long days of work patiently barrel curling our hair(my sisters and I)sacrificing and getting things we needed so that we could be a part of our High School dance team and my brother so he could play sports. Mom instilled good morals, how to be independent and to strive for what is right. Mom faced many challenges while raising us 4 but I will always remember her making time for us Mom would take us for drives ,playing  the radio and singing along(she had a great voice)we would walk along store windows, talk , laugh and cutup .I always loved to see my Mom smile and have a good time. Mom accomplished a lot was very active and so Beautiful. Mom is special to me I love her and thankful for the woman she has guided me to be. I have fun and loving memories to help with the dark days to bring some light. Mom said to me "I will be with God and the angels"  I will be with her again My Mom My love
