Carmen Mercado

Carmen Mercado, who loved to be called “Lucy” by her brothers and sisters, “Mom” and “Mommy” by her children, and “Mama Lucy” and “Wella” by her grandchildren, departed her loving family on August 19, 2022

Carmen was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Luis and Clementina Mercado. Carmen was a mother of six: David, Ruben, Sarai, Samuel, Susan, and Mickey

She worked for many years as a seamstress at Kelton Hats in the city of New York and as a unit clerk at Shriners Children’s Hospital in the city of Tampa. All while being a single mother.

Her favorite hobbies were cooking, sewing, and singing.

She is survived by her 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 siblings, Mario, Louie, Norma. Myrna and Millie. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Clementina, and four siblings, Rosa, Ruth Elaine, Joseph, and Tony

A visitation for Carmen will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614, followed by a funeral service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
