Barbara English

English, Barbara Joan 75, entered Heaven on July 17, 2015. Barbara was raised most of her life in Tampa; graduated Hillsborough High School in 1957 and then continued at Univ. of Tampa Class of 1960. She went on to receive her Masters of Education from USF. She began a career in education in Hillsborough County that would soon become her calling, teaching in numerous schools before becoming a Principal for 33 years, retiring from Riverhills Elementary in 2003. Her love of travel and cruising was driven by her desire to spend time with family. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and was always in awe of a beautiful sunset. She was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the area of Church Visitation and was a long time member of the choir and a third grade Sunday school teacher. She will be dearly missed by many, especially the Bible Study she would lead at Horizon Bay for the last many years. Her gracious smile and gentle nature gave everyone she met a sense of value. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Jerry English; her sons, Gregory and Jason (Jake); grandson, Gerald; her dear sister, Betty Aplin and numerous cousins. She joins in Heaven her brother, Billy Maddox; brother in law, Henry Aplin, and her parents, Ruthie and Ovid Maddox. While family was her greatest treasure, her greatest joy was the Lord. A Home Going service will be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, with visitation starting at 5:00pm on July 22, 2015. The family will hold a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that donations be made in her memory to the Idlewild College Age Ministry, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd., Lutz, FL 33548-4536.
