A.D. was born in Balm, Florida, to descendants of Christian pioneers from Quitman, Georgia, who moved to central Florida in the early 1800s. He was the son of the late Colbert Lewis and Marion Burnett Lewis. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1950. He was a marketing consultant in the fire and casualty insurance business. He retired from Prudential Insurance in 1987. He married his beautiful wife, Sandra Cooper Lackey in 1994.
He was a lifelong Christian and a faithful member of Idlewild Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, flying private planes, traveling to Europe, and eating Breyers Ice Cream.
A.D. is preceded in death by his brother, C.M. Lewis, and his sister, Nell Lewis Rosier. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Cooper Lackey Lewis, his sister, Evelyn Lewis Moore, daughter Terri Lewis Karpy, son Matthew Lewis (Joy), son Kobe Tomas (Mickey), grandchildren Ronald Kobe Tomas, Jan Tomas Greene (Jonathan), Joseph Karpy, Connor Karpy, Ryan Lewis, and great granddaughters Levey Lee Greene and Lelia Beau Greene, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, and services will be from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Friday, May 24th at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd., Lutz, FL 33548. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Idlewild Mission Fund. Arrangements being handled by Blount & Curry Funeral Home, Carrollwood, Florida.
